Deliver state-of-the-art care facilities and innovative modular solutions to support healthcare professionals and our wider community. The brand new 2,000sqm 60-bed Discharge Unit is an impressive example of a fast-track fit-out modular scheme, supporting the Trust as direct response to a hospital bed shortage. 

The facilities feature 6-bed wards, 4-bed wards and x8 single bedrooms with en-suites, additional shower facilities, kitchen and dining areas, clean and dirty utility, consultation spaces, waiting areas, two nurse bases and a main reception.

Designed to free-up beds and house patients no longer receiving hospital treatment but still requiring care and support. The specially designed facility includes a dedicated therapy space and separate dining area so patients can continue their journey back to health or regain their independence following hospital stays. 

Renowned for our strong relationships and collaborative approach with subcontractors and partners, coordinating early supply chain engagement and managing well thought out and thorough sequencing of works was integral to the successful delivery of the project. 

Our Operations Director, Phil Jessop, liaised and worked hand-in-hand with Network Rail to coordinate all health and safety aspects of the project, agreeing appropriate methodologies of install units and proposing alternative methods beneficial to all parties.

Our effort, experience and expertise enabled us to successfully deliver this fast-track project – building an infrastructure that will positively impact healthcare professionals and our wider community.

Work to complete the project involved specific and specialist healthcare construction and included:  

• The installation of doors, and walls including prefinished vinyl, floor and ceiling finishes, fixtures and fittings, sanitary wear as well as kitchen and shower facilities 

• Integrated dementia design guidance into the build, including specialist door and floor design 

• Installed new power and water supplies as well as communication facilities to connect with main hospital 

• Designed ramps and assisted shower block facilities in line with DDA 

• Regulation and planning works carried out with draining impact assessment, flood risk assessment and SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) to ensure efficiency of power and conservation 

• IPS units made from Kydex with clinical sinks were manufactured and installed in scrub rooms, toilets, en-suites and staff shower facilities 

• Installation of all fire alarms, electrics and data including security, CCTV and access control facilities 

• Heating, cooling, ventilation and drainage installation 

• Worked in partnership with modular installer and subcontractors to manage cohesive and comprehensive sequencing of works  

• Engaged and coordinated with Network Rail to agree methodology of install units, as project is located adjacent to main railway line 

• Worked in partnership with principal designers to coordinate all health and safety aspects of the project
