Helix CMS named finalist for Project of the Year at the 2025 National Building and Construction Awards
At Helix CMS, our mission has always been to deliver purpose-driven construction with long-term impact. We're proud to announce that our work on the Scunthorpe Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has been named a finalist in the “Project of the Year (£10 million – £25 million)” category at the 2025 National Building and Construction Awards.
A project built for the future
Delivered for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, the £19.4 million CDC is a 2,000 sqm diagnostic facility designed to transform access to early diagnostics in Northern Lincolnshire. From MRI and CT scanning to ultrasound and phlebotomy, the centre enables over 146,000 additional NHS appointments annually, significantly reducing pressure on local hospitals and improving health outcomes across the region.
Overcoming complex challenges
Constructed on a constrained, landlocked town centre site, the project demanded precise planning and agile delivery. We overcame limited access, proximity to live infrastructure, and logistical challenges by utilising a hybrid modern method of construction, including a prefabricated steel frame system.
Designed with people in mind
In collaboration with Alessandro Caruso Architects, the CDC was designed to improve wellbeing through sustainable design with dementia-friendly wayfinding, flexible appointment hours, and carefully designed clinical zones. Staff benefit from well-considered layouts, safe care environments, and seamless workflows.
Industry recognition
This landmark project was awarded a World Design Award in 2023 for its innovation, sustainability, and design excellence. Being shortlisted at the National Building and Construction Awards 2025 further highlights the value this development brings to communities, clinicians, and patients.
